Player guide · Fundamentals
Move with intent. Grow without giving away your head.
BWORM turns a compact control scheme into a positioning game. Your cursor sets direction, while boost trades mass for immediate speed. Surviving means reading open space before the body becomes too large to correct a bad route.

Controls
The cursor leads; boost is a deliberate commitment.
Steer
Move the mouse and the creature turns toward the cursor position. Place the cursor farther along the route you want to occupy instead of reacting only to the nearest obstacle.
Boost
Hold the left mouse button or Shift to accelerate. Boost drains mass continuously, so release it as soon as the opening, escape or interception is complete.
Read the arrow
The direction marker in front of the head follows the exact cursor direction. It is a planning aid for the next turn, not a separate movement control.
Opening plan
A reliable first minute.
- Collect before contesting. Build enough length to make your body useful without entering dense traffic too early.
- Keep one exit visible. A food cluster is not valuable if entering it leaves the head trapped between larger bodies.
- Use short boosts. Small corrections preserve more mass than holding acceleration through an entire route.
- Watch body curvature. Your tail follows the path already taken; plan turns that the full body can complete cleanly.
- Choose mutations for a plan. Do not mix bonuses only because they appear powerful in isolation.
Evolution timing
Four milestones create the build.
The active balance configuration offers mutation choices at 15, 45, 90 and 160 growth segments. Each choice presents three options, with a maximum of four selections during the run. These moments slow the action while the choice is open, but the decision still needs a purpose.
Foundation
Select the first advantage that matches how you intend to survive the opening.
Direction
Reinforce pursuit, growth, control or escape before the arena becomes crowded.
Synergy
Combine compatible effects and account for the penalties already accepted.
Commitment
Complete the build around the situations you can reliably create.
Survival discipline
Protect the decision point: the head.
The safest route is not always the shortest line to food. Keep enough space to turn, avoid crossing toward a rival without seeing its available angle, and treat a larger body as both protection and constraint. When pressure rises, a clean escape is often worth more than a contested cluster.
Boost should answer a specific question: escape, intercept or reposition. If none applies, normal movement preserves mass and gives you more time to observe. The dedicated growth and boost guide explains that economy in detail.
